Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild Newsletter - September 2023
President's Message
Hello Quilting Friends
This summer sure went fast. I found that I was torn between spending time outside, enjoying the hot days of summer, and spending time in my quilt room creating. I tended to neglect my quilt room to enjoy the summer and all that it captured. But now, Quilt season has arrived!
Joyce and I are excited about this upcoming Guild year. We have many ideas that we have been throwing around. If you have any suggestions, kindly let us know. Our goal is to have a carefree, relaxing, welcoming year. After all, the guild is a meeting place for like minded people, with a common goal in mind. We want to learn from each other, have fun, a few laughs, while enjoying each other’s company.
We were disappointed to hear that Brenda was no longer able to be the programmer. If you are interested, or have any suggestions, please bring them forward. Also, Betty has given up her position as secretary, so if you are interested in this position, please let us know.
We have decided to bring back a few Quilt Guild favorites and hope to have a few teaching classes.
Thanks for being part of our group.
-- Anne Cruickshank, Co-President

Library News
With our gardens nearly ready to be put to bed for the winter (!), it’s time to be thinking of all the projects you want to make this ADQG quilting year. As we start up again, please take a look at the updated Library Catalogue that you can find on our website. I’ve added nearly a dozen new titles and many new patterns, too, so there’s lots of choice for your quilts and gifts!!
We have been given many books over the past few months - more than we can include in our collection and so we are going to have a book sale at our September meeting! ALL books will be $1. Bring you loonies and toonies and score a bargain! There are hard and soft cover books and all of them are great – you’ll want to have them in your personal library!
We’ll have our “Guess the Number of Pages” contest as well --start practicing your guessing!!
Don’t forget to bring any books back that you have signed out for the summer.
Have fun looking through our Library to choose what you’d like to borrow this month!

Charity Projects
We're happy to report that five quilts were delivered to "CPAN", Community Poverty Action Network, in Renfrew County, Pembroke. Their mandate is to take ‘action’ to improve the lives of children from low income families living in our community. Seems like a very worthy cause and they were extremely pleased to receive them.
We are very proud to be a charitable organization and this year's charity quilt project will follow in October.
See you at the meeting,
Marilyn

Tarts and Arts in the Park
Our Arnprior & District Quilters' Guild was represented by hosting a booth at the Arnprior’s Rotary Club second annual "Tarts and Arts in the Park" held at Robert Simpson Park on Saturday, August 26th. Marilyn Erskine, Anne Cruikshank, Martha Palmer and Joyce Murray set up the booth with a variety of quilts, large and small and were on hand throughout the day to greet interested festival goers as well as answer questions about our guild and the art of quilting. Many people stopped by to admire the quilts, share stories of quilts and some guest passes were given out to potential new members. The event was well attended and many people from Arnprior and the surrounding area enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy the delicious butter tarts for sale as well as participate in the activities of face painting, craft table and Little Ray’s Reptiles. The event theme was “Through the Looking Glass”, with the emcee as the Mad Hatter and other characters from the Alice and Wonderland book in costume from the Rotary Club.

History of Fons and Porter Love of Quilting
"Marianne Fons and Liz Porter — you’ve welcomed them into your home through your mailbox, your television, your computer. Many of us learned to quilt from them, or learned new techniques, or were inspired to make a different quilt, or were reassured that we all make mistakes and still have a wonderful quilt. But have you ever stopped to think about the history of Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting? Well, we’re sharing everything you’ve ever wanted to know (and more) about this dynamic duo! ..."

2023-2024 Meeting Dates
Our meetings are typically held on the 4th Wednesday of every month with December and June being the exceptions when the meetings are a little earlier. While the 4th Wednesday is typically also the last Wednesday of the month, this year is a real rarity with three of the meetings in months with five Wednesdays! Just remember - we typically meet the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Communications
Thank you to Tina and Emma for rounding out our little Communications team again this year. Tina facilitates the guild Facebook page and group, and Emma is our talented guild photographer who finally got a great workout last year with so many in-person meetings and the quilt show.
Guild Facebook Group
Have you joined our guild members-only Facebook Group yet? If not you are missing out on all the fun. This is a great way to get to know your fellow guild members, to ask questions, learn a new block, a new tip or trick. Last year we saw some lovely photos of the Block of the Month quilts being assembled and finished off, and much more.
Tina is doing a fantastic job of monitoring and facilitating the activity in this group. Thank you Tina for this wonderful guild initiative!
Hope to see you in our Facebook group soon. Click/tap here to join the group now.
